JMAC Karate was established in the Spring of 2000. Since its inception, JMAC Karate has served the local community by building the body and minds of its students. Whether students would like to learn self-defense, become competitive athletes, or maintain a healthy lifestyle, JMAC Karate is a great option for those who are willing to put in the effort and train hard.

What is Karate?

Karate is a Japanese martial art that focuses on defense as well as offensive techniques. Defensive techniques include blocks, escapes, releases, sweeps, takedowns and counterattacks. Offensive techniques include punches, kicks, chops, elbows and knees. Common themes in Karate classes are forms, fighting, and self-defense.

Karate-do means “empty hand-way”. This refers to the practice of karate as a way of life. Karate-Do practitioners use technical repetition, conditioning, in-depth curriculum study, and meditation to further themselves in their personal development. It is Karate practitioners’ quest to bring their mind, body, and spirit together for greater health benefits.

Karate is also practiced as a world-wide sport. Athletes participating in karate competitions carry honor, respect, and discipline in their performances. The two main events where athletes can demonstrate their skills are Kata and Kumite.
